The Lakers are a better team for a simple reason ...
Kobe Bryant has matured.!!!!
This year has become a "team player", not just obsessed with turning points as in previous years, and now he reach the level of a real superstar: "to be the best and make all their teammates better."
And as for the Lakers as a team: If they continue at the same level, if they continue injury free, and if Andrew "baby" Bynum continues growing, certainly could win between 55 and 60 games this season.
And besides, they can go quite far in the play-offs, reaching the finals ... And win everything.
Although it will have to see if they make any trade: Kwame Brown and be someone else for any player who can really contribute to the team, and made it better.

looks like portland this year, youngest and hottest team right now and will mature and get better. lakers will compete but i dont think have have enough depth off the bench. the lakers did get blown out by the celtics twice already and if the two teams meet in the finals there is no way boston will lose 4 out of 7 to them.
Only the Spurs look like the only road block for them in the Western Conference
They have won 1 out of 2 against them and won 2 out of 3 last year against them...still got 2 more games against San Antonio, so based on those performances we'll see how far Lakers are capable of going
But as of now, they are a legit elite team in the West. No. 2 behind San Antonio, absolutely no doubt about it
Nah Their a very good team dont get me wrong! but celtics have already got this season wrapped up... i know its early to say but can you really see them not winning the title with their team! and statisically the celtics are better than the lakers so... no! im a knicks fan by the way so i can't talk! lol
They're getting there, but they're not there yet. The west is just saturated with good teams right now. Unless you can imagine the Lakers beating the Spurs, Suns or Mavs in the playoffs without laughing, it just isnt happening. If they can keep this core of guys together for another 3 years, they may be a serious contender come 2010-11...

dude im a huge laker fan!......but i hate to say that i dont think theyre that good!....the only way they have a shot is to be in the eastern conference!lol....the eastern conference only has 2 elite teams!(pistons and celtics)....the lakers would be the 3rd seed if they were in the east!.....

but if ther lakers continue to be consistent, bynum gets double-doubles every night, the bench plays great every game, and if kobe doesnt have a bad shooting night, they got a huge shot of heading to the finals! remember dude this is only january(remember last year)....its how you finish April, and how you start May that counts
I think the Lakers could be one of those teams that just suprises everyone I mean the Spurs, Suns, and Mavericks have been kinda shaky. It doesnt seem like there is any dominant teams in the West anymore, just let Odom get a little more involved in the passing game and just leave the scoring to Kobe and they actually have a ligit shot.
in the west they would have to be able to survive the ridiculous 7 game per round playoff(which is Freaking stupid). they could beat the spurs, suns and mavs, they would just have to stay healthy long enough. I wouldn't see them sweeping any team so they would have to play an addtional 20 games at least befor they won a title.
Their serious contenders, yes. But can they beat a team in a 7 game series? The Playoffs is in another level, their young guys must step up and go into another level themselves. They have a good shot to dethrone the Phoenix Suns at their Division and obtain a higher seeding, most importantly home court advantage.
As we can see, Kobe Bryant does not need to score 35+ points just to close a game. Their team is knocking down shots and making plays, most importantly their bench play has helped. And an emerging young Andrew Bynum has been terrific for them all season long, and he must continue that through Playoffs, playing at a high level.

the lakers are definitely championship worthy. i think they'll shock everyone is they win the championship.

theyre gettting good, but not championship worthy. they need bynum to get better, more consistency from odom, and of course kobe has to stay. maybe if all this happens in about 2 years theyll be championship ready.
if bynum continues to mature and raise his game to like 25 15 every night, i see them making a run in the playoffs
Wow the Lakers are an improve team, it's like night and day compare to last year. Yep they're are a contender for the title, they're 14-5 against the West. The Lakers bench are so deep, it's the same players from last year, they somehow improve their games over the summer and play an important role in the Lakers resurgent. Go Lakers
